I am a gardener, designer & horticulturalist based in Hobart, Tasmania.

As a qualified, practising horticulturalist and gardener I have a strong foundation on how

plants and gardens work in conjunction with the natural and constructed landscape.

The garden design process is a collaboration, between client and designer, but also with nature.

A good garden design can enhance your lifestyle, is practical and functional. It is also beautiful and can nourish – our bodies, minds & souls.

I will work with you and your garden – whether that is in enhancing what you already have or starting anew – in creating beautiful functional spaces.

Design Consult

Understanding your needs and desires as well as your site is essential to a successful garden design.

An initial onsite consultation is undertaken so I can get to know you and your space and to explore the possibilities.

I will meet with you to view the garden and explore your taste, style and requirements. I will provide you with an overview of my services and answer any questions that you may have.

Following this, I will provide a short written brief, outlining our discussion and a design fee proposal.

Site Survey & Analysis

A site survey is carried out to assess boundaries, existing features, trees, dimensions and other measurements required for the design.

Engaging a surveyor to undertake a topographic survey of your site is essential in providing an accurate base on which to build a garden design.

I can conduct Line & Level Survey for non-complex sites.

I will undertake a site analysis to accompany the survey, noting important factors

such as aspect, soil type, privacy, access and other features that will influence the design.

This gives me the opportunity to explore the landscape in more detail, recording any information I will need for the design.

Concept Plan

I will provide a detailed concept plan that shows all the elements that will be in the new design. We can then discuss and develop the ideas and options enabling you to visualise your new garden.

Collaboration between designer and client is essential for good garden design and a successful outcome. I will make any necessary changes to the concept plan until both parties are satisfied.

Hard Landscape Plan and Layout

I will provide a landscape plan that will include the information a contractor needs to install the new design, including specifics in regard to materials, the layout, ground elevations and critical dimensions. Where required I will also provide a specification document to accompany the landscape plan

Planting Plan and Schedule

I will develop a Planting Plan that shows accurate placement of every plant. It will be accompanied by a Plant Schedule and Maintenance Guide.

The Plant Schedule provides information on the plant/s including how many are required and where they can be purchased.

The Maintenance Guide provides clear instructions on how best to look after your new garden.

Project Liaison

I will liaise with construction and trades people during installation to ensure you get the garden that you want.
